You should avoid wearing contact lenses when you have flu or another infection, as this greatly increases the risk of having an eye infection.

As you may have noticed, also eyes get infected when you have flu. This is because eyes, nose, pharynx and ears are all connected. For example, a flu virus can travel from pharynx to eyes and cause eye infection. If you use contact lenses, the risk increases.

Therefore, if you are ill, you should wear eye glasses instead of contact lenses. You should also note that taking medication can lower the tolerability of contact lenses.

Please note that the advice and tips given in this blog are based on Finnish regulations and laws. Therefore, you need to verify the regulations and laws in your country from your own optician, optometrist or eye specialist.
