The effect that plus and minus glasses have on the eye is an issue that we often discuss especially with female customers who are getting their first eye glasses. I try to tell them how plus or minus glasses should be taken into account when doing the make-up.
Plus glasses and make-up
Plus glasses make the eyes look bigger. This means that the lines and wrinkles around the eye and also possible dark shadows below the eye become more apparent.
Women who wear plus glasses should therefore aim for a simple make-up that makes the eyes look smaller. You should avoid pearly colors, as they make the eyes look bigger and highlight eye lines. I would recommend dark matte eye shadow and using only one shade to the entire eyelid. Do not use mascara on the eyelashes below your eye as this may create a scruffy look. The most important thing when you have plus glasses is that you do your make up carefully.

Minus glasses and make-up
Minus glasses make the eyes look smaller and therefore you should aim for a make-up that makes the eyes look bigger.
Use strong colored eyeliner and use it to both upper and down lids. Also, use a lot of mascara. Select pearly eye shadows for the widening effect. The eye lining is the most important thing with minus glasses and its importance grows the bigger your minus values are.
A mirror or make-up glasses help you
A magnifying mirror with lights will help you with your make-up, or separate make-up glasses. Depending on the brand, make-up glasses have either one or two lenses. If you have glasses with two lenses, you just turn the other lens on the eye and do the make-up to the other eye.
If you have different powers in the eyes, glasses with two lenses work better.
The most used are ready-made make-up glasses, but the glasses can also be manufactured according to your own eye glass receipt.
Consult a cosmetician
If you have very strong glasses, visiting a cosmetician for a make-up consultation is a good idea. They can help you with what kind of colors you should use and what kind of make-up you should do in order to look good with glasses as well.
